Mineral makeup has been around for years but it’s become more popular recently, with people looking for natural alternatives to regular makeup that use as little artificial ingredients as possible, and provide lighter skin coverage. These are the top five reasons why using mineral makeup is a MUST.
Mineral makeup is better for your skin. Mineral makeup is made from a mixture of mica, zinc oxide, iron oxides and titanium dioxide, ground and milled or broken into tiny particles. In comparison, conventional makeup often includes emollients, chemicals, fragrances and preservatives. Mineral makeup is also non-comedongenic, meaning it doesn’t block your pores, cause breakouts or blackheads, and allows the skin to breathe. Both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are also found in sunscreen, and while it’s not an alternative, most mineral makeup products have a sun protection rating of at least SPF15.
It has similar, often better, coverage than regular makeup. Compared to regular foundations, mineral makeup is not as heavy on your skin. When you applying it, you can build up sheer layers until you reach the desired effect. By blending mineral makeup easily on your skin then buffing it in a circular motion, you can achieve natural looking skin coverage without feeling like you have layers of product caked on your face.
It is good for people who have skin conditions or sensitive skin. Ingredients found in conventional makeup such as artificial colours, oils and perfumes are often the number one cause of skin irritations. The combination of ingredients in mineral makeup has anti-inflammatory properties that are great for people who have acne, eczema, and rosacea or skin sensitive to sunlight following procedures such as chemical peels. Mineral makeup is less likely to aggravate skin and has more of a calming effect.
It doesn’t accentuate fine lines and wrinkles. While traditional makeup often sinks into and accentuates lines and wrinkles, mineral makeup does the opposite. It reflects light in a certain way, making it bounce off the skin and creating a soft focus effect that reduces the appearance of ageing.
Mineral makeup is more resistant to the elements. Conventional makeup tends to melt or rub off when exposed to heat, rain or even tears. Mineral makeup doesn’t slide off your skin as easily, and is more resistant to differing weather conditions.
